How much do lanchas cost on Lake Atitlán?

Lancha Prices from Panajachel

If you’re planning on exploring the many different towns on your visit to Lake Atitlán, then you’ll most likely be traveling by lancha (a commuter speed boat).

While you can book a private lancha, we recommend hopping on one of the public boats, which leave every 15–30 minutes between 7AM and 6:30PM.

But how much does this cost?

From Panajachel’s main dock, the standard fare to most destinations around the lake is Q25 per person, operating between 7AM and 6:30PM. This includes popular stops like Free Cerveza, Santa Cruz, La Fortuna Atitlán, Sunset Lodge, Villa Sumaya, Paxanax, Xepoj, Casa Larry, Iguana Perdida, Arca de Noé, Sacred Tree, Los Elementos, Isla Verde, Palatalik, Tzancruz, and Casa del Mundo.

Traveling to San Marcos, San Juan, or San Pedro?
We don’t have an updated price list yet — but expect to pay Q25 or more.

What to Expect on a Lancha Ride

Public lanchas are shared boats that connect all the towns around Lake Atitlán. They’re safe, scenic, and an essential part of local life. Most rides take 10–30 minutes, depending on your destination, and you’ll enjoy some of the best views of the lake and volcanoes along the way.

Try to sit near the front if you want the best breeze and views — or near the back if you prefer less splash during windy afternoons.

Tips for Taking Lanchas

  • Bring small bills (Q5s, Q10s, and Q20s) — captains rarely have change for large notes.
  • Ask before boarding to confirm the price and destination.
  • Evening boats usually stop around 6:30 PM, so plan your return earlier or arrange a private ride.
  • Wear sunscreen or a hat — the sun reflects off the water and can be intense mid-day.
  • If the lake is choppy, keep your belongings inside a backpack or dry bag to avoid spray.

Private Lanchas

If you’re traveling with a group or returning late, you can book a private lancha directly from most docks. Prices vary by distance but typically range from Q100–Q250 (or above Q700 if you're looking for one late at night) depending on your route and time of day.

Ask around or message Free Cerveza staff if you need help arranging one, we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
